I dont use this word often, but today's fishing was
#epic. My charter today was 2 people- a grandfather and his young grandson. I had the simple mission of catching the grandson his first
#cobia.
We looked around first thing in the morning and within the first half hour of the day, it was mission complete. Not a big fish, but a nice 35"er that we released. The first one is always the hardest one to get, so after we got that one out of the way, it was game on. We caught a couple more shorts. Broke off a nice 40-50# fish. Threw the hook on a 60# class fish, but that happens, especially when we have a little kid for an angler and the fish are bigger than he is.
Then we trolled for a little bit and caught a few Spanish mackerel while we were looking around. The boy caught his first citation fish ever, a 4# spanish mackerel. About lunch time, the sun came out, the clouds cleared away, and things got crazy. I found a place that had some huge manta rays. Some of these manta rays had 15 to 20 foot wingspans, and every one of these huge manta rays was holding anywhere from 10 to 25 cobias riding with them.
The manta rays were swimming up to the boat literally rubbing themselves on the bottom of my boat like they were scratching themselves. While they did that, we proceeded to bail cobias out from under the rays. We were picking and choosing which fish we wanted to catch and after the kid got worn down, grandpa caught a couple, and I even cranked in a couple.
When the smoke cleared, in about an hour and a half, we caught a dozen or fifteen fish up to 40 pounds, killed an easy limit, and let a bunch go all on ultralight

I get to fish every day and you dont get to see the stuff we saw today very often. It was even cooler to me that the boy is a friend of mine's son and we made memories today that he and his grandpa will remember forever.
It was EPIC. @ Matador Sport Fishing Charters
