Virginia beach offers excellent "inshore" fishing in the waters off the coast of Virginia Beach. These trips are sometimes called "deep sea fishing" trips and while inshore fishing trips do go out into the waters of the Atlantic ocean and Chesapeake bay, inshore fishing trips do not go out to the continental shelf, the gulf stream, or target pelagic fish, like an "offshore fishing charter" would.
Inshore fishing charters fish generally within a couple miles of the Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach and commonly target species like sharks, cobia, red drum, black drum, spadefish, black sea bass, spanish mackerel, and bluefish. These inshore fishing charters are great for novices or families who just want to get out on the boat for a couple of hours and catch some fish. These trips are easy, fun, and offer the most fishing experience for the least money.
We welcome families and children aboard and recommend inshore fishing charters for kids. On many of our inshore fishing charters we target sharks, which is always a big hit with the kids. These inshore shark fishing charters are great for making memories with your family!
Most of the sharks we catch on inshore charters are small sharks 3 to 5 feet in length but the kids love seeing and touching the sharks and the sharks are handled safely and released after photos.
For those who don’t want to catch and release sharks and want something they can eat, we have several popular inshore fishing trips. We offer a cobia sight fishing trip, where we typically catch cobia and red drum by casting lures. We do wreck fishing inshore charters where we typically catch black sea bass, flounder, and tautog.
Many people have told us their greatest memory of their stay in Virginia Beach was their inshore fishing charter! Matador charters specializes in these inshore charters, and we are very good at making sure you have an enjoyable, safe trip, and catch fish!
