Excellent inshore fishing charters lately for Matador charters out of Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach. This summer, the Spanish mackerel fishing has been exceptional. We have seen very good fishing for Spanish mackerel nearly every day and the size, for Spanish mackerel has been large. A couple days back we caught the largest Spanish mackerel I have ever caught in Virginia. It was 6 pounds 12 ounces. That is the biggest Spanish mackerel caught in Virginia so far this year. There have also been some bluefish around on our half days. We have seen excellent cobia fishing off the Virginia beach oceanfront. Schools of large red drum have been available on every charter fishing trip where we have calm conditions. We have seen some tarpon inshore several times. Flounder and croaker are around. It has been a very good season for inshore fishing so far. The shark fishing hasn’t been stellar but the quality of the sharks we have caught lately has been very good.
Offshore fishing charters have seen very good fishing for dolphin. There are still some tuna around. The bigeye fishing has been slow in comparison to the last several years but there are still some bigeyes around. Marlin fishing is just getting going and looks to be shaping up as a great year for marlin fishing. deep drop fishing charters and wreck fishing charters continue to yield good numbers of tilefish, sea bass, and some golden tilefish and grouper.
