It.s that time of year, fall is here, water temperatures are cooling, and while most other species of fish are migrating out of the area, a local favorite, striper aka striped bass aka rockfish will soon be migrating into the waters of the lower chesapeake bay and hopefully the inshore waters of the atlantic ocean off Virginia Beach. Matador charters will be offering striped bass fishing charters through the fall and winter so long as there are fish available to catch IN LEGAL WATERS. Typically stripers will show up around thanksgiving and larger cow rockfish can be taken in the lower bay on eels. This fishing is not fishing for huge numbers of fish, but large trophy size rockfish are regularly caught over 40 pounds while using live bait fishing in the lower bay. Also smaller schoolie fish will move out of the rivers and inlets into the lower bay waters as water temperatures cool. This can lead to outstanding light tackle action with huge numbers of smaller "schoolie" sized stripers while fishing around structure in the lower bay in December. The season ends for fishing the waters of the chesapeake bay january 1 and then attention will shift to fishing in the ocean. Huge schools of striped bass will migrate down the coast to their traditional wintering grounds off the Virginia Coast in january and we can see some really excellent fishing for hug enumbers of huge fish IF the fish come in close enough to the beach. We are only allowed to fish for rockfish within 3 miles of the shore, and even though the fish are around sometimes they may be uncooperative for anglers and be too far offshore. either way the Virginia beach striped bass season looks promising for the next upcoming weeks and we look forward to getting the chance to get out and catch some rockfish.

Inshore we also have good numbers of tautog, sea bass, and some flounder for wreck fishing charters. Casting the bridges and structure has started to show stripers and plenty of bluefish. Offshore most of the trolling action is over, but deep drop fishing has been very productive when the weather allows offshore fishing charters.

We have plenty of dates available for inshroe and offshore fishing. Give me a call at 7577496008 for charter fishing info from Virginia Beachkfish charters
