Its that time of year, the weather is cooling down, kids are back in school, and everyone is settled into their 9 to 5 grind and no one is going fishing, which is a shame because the fall offers some of the best inshore and offshore fishing opportunities out of Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach. Offshore fishing charters are seeing excellent action trolling in the gulf stream with wahoos and dolphin, with scattered yellowfin tuna and an occassional marlin. Soon the fishing for yellowfin tuna will improve as cold fronts spawn warm water gulf stream eddies. In a few short weeks we will also see the arrival of bluefin tuna, swordfish, and mako sharks.
Offshore the deep drop fishing can also be excellent this time of year. There are plenty of blueline and golden tilefish, rosefish, grouper, and black sea bass just came back into season yesterday.
There are also a ton of things to catch for our inshore fishing charters. Full days inshore can find red drum, flounder, tautog, and sea bass. and our four hour half day inshore fishing trips still have plenty of bluefish available, as well as plenty of speckled trout, and some puppy drum and flounder around the inlet. This time of year can be a very productive time of year to fish and any day we should start seeing some striped bass in our local waters. Stripers AKA rockfish are really fun to catch and are one of the best tasting fish around.
