Virginia Beach charter fishing offshore report

Over the last couple of weeks, Matador Charters has been doing a number of inshore fishing charters and offshore fishing charters out of our home port at Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach. Once we get into the month of August, we are getting towards the latter part of the charter fishing season in Virginia Beach, but this can be the best time of year to fish in Virginia. Our offshore fishing season reaches its peak for marlin and mahi mahi fishing in August and we should continue to see great fishing for blue marlin, white marlin, and even a sailfish every now and again. We are also catching plenty of dolphin fish right now. There have been scattered yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna, and wahoo, but numbers on these species should improve as waters cool and we head towards the fall season. As always, the deep drop fishing for tilefish, sea bass, grouper and rosefish continues to be very productive. Overall charter fishing in the gulf stream remains very good and we look forward to finishing out our sport fishing season in Virginia Beach.

On our inshore trips, we continue to see good numbers of taylor bluefish on the troll. Spadefish have finally begun to bite, which is a bit out of whack and it isnt really the traditional time of year that we catch spadefish in Virginia Beach, but we will take it. Cobia action off the oceanfront has been sporadic. We have caught a handful of really nice cobia this year, but not in any large numbers yet. That should change as cobia begin to migrate out of the bay. Red drum and king mackerel remain a possibility on our inshore fishing charters our of rudee inlet in Virginia Beach.

We have had a really great summer of shark fishing charters out of rudee inlet in Virginia Beach this season. The water has been warm and bait has been thick and sharks have been relatively easy to find. Though most of the shark fishing is catch and release, our charters enjoy catching the sharks and kids really enjoy getting to see the sharks. We have caught and released thousands of sharks this summer, from little 2 foot blacktip sharks to 15 foot great white sharks and everything in between.
