Summer is here, tourist season is in full swing, and Matador charters has been doing plenty of charter fishing so far this summer. There has been some really great fishing too. We have had a lot of trips- inshore fishing trips, offshore fishing trips, deep drop fishing trips, tuna charters, but with all of the shark attack this year, we have done a lot of shark fishing charters. People really want to see sharks right now, and the sharks have not been disappointing. We are seeing PLENTY of sharks, and some really nice big sharks.
Inshore, we are seeing the typical summer time fishing. I feel like there is an abundance of sharks this year but that is kind of typical. In Virginia Beach we have a lot of sharks, and people love catching them, so we spend a lot of time targeting sharks, so as a result we catch a lot of sharks. Our inshore catches have also had really great numbers of spanish mackerel and bluefish, as well as a cobia or two. With it being mid summer there is also always an outside chance at catching a big king mackerel or a redfish on and inshore fishing charter as well. These inshore fishing trips really are a great time and we catch a lot of fish. Kids really enjoy these trips and inshore fishing is a great way to spend a day when you ar ein Virginia Beach.
Offshore we are also seeing some really good summertime fishing. Marlins are starting to arrive and we have seen a few days where there have been catches of blue marlin and white marlin around the norfolk canyon. Soon we will start doing some live bait fishing using tinker mackerel around the canyon, which s really fun fishing, but there are tunas around and they are getting most of our attention on the offshore fishing charters. In the gulf stream and around the canyon we are also seeing some scattered catches of yellowfin tuna and even a bigeye tuna every now and again. Warm gulf stream water has pushed way in and charter boats heading offshore dont have to go very far to find good catches of mahi mahi and even a bluefin tuna or two. We continue to see plenty of the bigger sharks offshore as well. The towers to the south are also loaded with amberjacks.
Deep drop fishing continues to be very good and around the canyon we are seeing some very good catches of blueline tilefish, golden tilefish, jumbo black sea bass, black belly rosefish, barrelfish, and wreckfish.
We are booking all kinds of fishing trips right now and if you want to go fishing, we can get you out on a fishing charter.
