On Saturday, we had a Virginia Beach deep drop fishing charter with David Reynolds, David Swoope, and crew who chartre me once or twice a year. We headed offshore out of Rudee inlet towards the norfolk canyon and had flat calm seas and perfect conditions for bottom fishing. The first spot we stopped was a blueline tilefish hole. We caught a good number of tilefish and plenty of dogfish. Next we tried a spot for golden tilefish and wreckfish. We had a good number of bites, but many fish kept falling off the hook. We did catch a golden tilefish and a couple wreckfish. Next spot was barrelfish and rosefish. There were plenty of fish in the last spot and we caught a lot there but it was getting late in the day and we had to move elsewhere. We stopped very briefly on the blueline tilefish hole at the end of the day and caught a few more tilefish for the fishbox. Final tally for the day was about 15 blueline tilefish up to 11 pounds, a golden tilefish 19 pounds, two 20 pound wreckfish, 15 or so barrelfish up to 19 pounds, and a bunch of black belly rosefish. Lots of cranking and lots of catching for us, and best of all, plenty of meat for the freezer. We are currently booking Virginia Beach deep drop charters so give us a call.
